Walmart Holiday Schedule 2026: Complete Store Hours and Holiday Closures

Walmart is open on most major U.S. holidays in 2026, including Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and New Year’s Day. However, Walmart stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, and Christmas Day, December 25, 2026. These two closures have been confirmed by Walmart.

Most Walmart locations normally operate from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, although local schedules may differ. Christmas Eve typically has reduced shopping hours, while Black Friday may feature special opening times.

If you’re planning last-minute holiday shopping, grocery pickup, prescription collection, or a visit to a Walmart Supercenter, understanding the holiday schedule can help you avoid unexpected closures.

This guide covers the complete Walmart holiday schedule for 2026, major holiday opening and closing times, pharmacy availability, online shopping, pickup and delivery services, and practical ways to confirm your local store’s hours.

Quick Answer: Walmart Holiday Hours 2026

The Walmart holiday schedule is relatively straightforward: stores remain open on most holidays but close on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Important takeaways:

• Walmart has confirmed store closures for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day 2026.
• Most Walmart stores normally open at 6:00 AM and close at 11:00 PM.
• Christmas Eve generally features an earlier closing time.
• Black Friday shopping hours may differ from the regular schedule.
• Walmart Pharmacy, Vision Center, Auto Care Center, and other departments may operate on separate schedules.
• Online orders can generally be placed when physical stores are closed, but fulfillment and delivery availability may be limited.
• Local store hours should be checked before visiting.

The schedule above describes Walmart’s U.S. retail operations. Individual stores may have exceptions due to local conditions, and Walmart’s international businesses follow different holiday calendars.

What Are Walmart’s Regular Store Hours?

Most Walmart Supercenters and many Walmart Neighborhood Markets operate seven days a week, including weekends.

The common operating schedule is:

These hours are typical rather than universal. Smaller stores, specialized locations, and stores affected by local operating restrictions may have different schedules.

Is Walmart Open 24 Hours?

Most Walmart stores in the United States no longer operate 24 hours a day.

Although some Walmart Supercenters previously offered round-the-clock shopping, the retailer moved away from widespread 24-hour operations.

For most shoppers, the standard 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM schedule is a more useful starting point.

However, customers should not assume that every store opens at 6:00 AM or remains open until 11:00 PM.

Do Walmart Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets Have the Same Hours?

Walmart Supercenters and Walmart Neighborhood Markets generally follow the same major holiday closure policy, but their regular operating hours can vary.

A Supercenter offers groceries, clothing, electronics, home products, and numerous additional departments.

Neighborhood Markets focus primarily on groceries, pharmacy services, and household essentials.

Both formats may be affected by holiday closures, reduced staffing, and separate service-department schedules.

Walmart Holiday Schedule 2026: Month-by-Month Guide

Although Walmart remains open during most holidays, some dates are particularly important for shoppers preparing family meals, buying gifts, or managing prescriptions.

Here is a closer look at the main holidays throughout 2026.

January: New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Walmart stores are generally open on New Year’s Day.

This makes January 1 a convenient shopping day for groceries, cleaning supplies, household products, and items needed after holiday celebrations.

However, pharmacies and specialty departments may have reduced hours.

Walmart also remains open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which falls on Monday, January 19, 2026.

For most locations, standard store hours are expected.

February: Presidents’ Day and Valentine’s Day

Walmart typically maintains regular business hours on Presidents’ Day and Valentine’s Day.

Shoppers can generally purchase flowers, chocolates, gifts, groceries, electronics, and seasonal merchandise during normal operating hours.

Presidents’ Day may also coincide with retailer promotions, but holiday operating hours do not guarantee specific discounts or product availability.

April: Good Friday and Easter Sunday

Walmart stores are generally open on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

In 2026, Easter Sunday falls on April 5.

Unlike some retailers that close for Easter, Walmart typically continues operating, making it an option for last-minute holiday shopping.

Customers may find Easter candy, baking ingredients, decorations, toys, groceries, and seasonal merchandise.

However, pharmacy and other department hours may differ from the main store.

May: Memorial Day

Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 25, 2026.

Most Walmart stores remain open during normal business hours.

Customers can generally shop for outdoor furniture, grilling supplies, food, beverages, gardening products, and camping equipment.

Walmart may also offer Memorial Day promotions, but specific sales and inventory depend on the retailer’s current offers.

June: Juneteenth and Father’s Day

Walmart generally operates during normal business hours on Juneteenth, June 19, and Father’s Day, June 21, 2026.

Shoppers can usually access groceries, electronics, home improvement products, gifts, and other merchandise.

Specialty department schedules should still be verified.

July: Independence Day

Walmart is generally open on Independence Day, Saturday, July 4, 2026.

Many locations follow their regular Saturday operating schedule.

Typical shopping categories include grilling supplies, outdoor games, patio products, picnic essentials, beverages, and party decorations.

However, certain services within the store may operate on modified holiday schedules.

September: Labor Day

Labor Day falls on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Walmart stores generally remain open for their usual business hours.

Customers can shop for groceries, back-to-school supplies, appliances, furniture, and household products.

Pharmacy and department schedules may be shorter than the main store’s hours.

October: Columbus Day and Halloween

Columbus Day, also observed by many communities as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, falls on Monday, October 12, 2026.

Walmart stores are generally open.

Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31, 2026, and stores typically follow their normal Saturday schedules.

Customers planning Halloween shopping should remember that seasonal merchandise may sell out before the holiday.

Store opening hours do not guarantee the availability of costumes, candy, or decorations.

November: Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Black Friday

November includes one of Walmart’s most important nationwide closures.

Veterans Day falls on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, and Walmart generally remains open.

However, Thanksgiving Day falls on Thursday, November 26, and Walmart has officially confirmed that stores will be closed.

Stores reopen for Black Friday shopping on Friday, November 27, subject to announced opening hours.

December: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve

December includes another major Walmart closure.

Christmas Eve shopping is generally available, although Walmart usually closes earlier than normal.

On Friday, December 25, 2026, Walmart stores will be closed nationwide.

Stores are expected to reopen on Saturday, December 26, following their applicable schedules.

Walmart is generally open on New Year’s Eve, December 31, although specialty departments may reduce their hours.

Is Walmart Open on Thanksgiving Day 2026?

No. Walmart will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 2026.

Walmart confirmed this closure in its October 2026 holiday-season announcement.

The policy allows store associates to spend the holiday with family and loved ones.

Walmart began closing its U.S. stores on Thanksgiving Day in 2020 and has maintained the practice in subsequent years.

Walmart Thanksgiving Week Schedule

Regular hours are generally expected on surrounding non-holiday dates unless a location announces special arrangements.

Can You Shop at Walmart Online on Thanksgiving?

Yes. Walmart’s online storefront and mobile app generally remain accessible for browsing and placing orders during Thanksgiving.

However, placing an online order does not mean that a local Walmart store will process or deliver it immediately.

Same-day delivery, grocery pickup, and other fulfillment services may be unavailable or have limited appointment slots.

The checkout process displays available fulfillment options for the selected items and location.

When Should You Buy Thanksgiving Groceries?

Shopping several days before Thanksgiving is usually more convenient than waiting until Wednesday evening.

High-demand grocery products may include:

• Frozen or fresh turkeys
• Stuffing ingredients
• Potatoes and vegetables
• Butter, milk, and cream
• Pies and baking supplies
• Disposable serving products
• Paper towels and cleaning supplies

Customers ordering groceries online should reserve their available pickup or delivery slots early when possible.

Walmart Black Friday Hours 2026

Black Friday falls on Friday, November 27, 2026.

Walmart stores will reopen following their Thanksgiving closure, but shoppers should verify the official Black Friday opening time for their location.

Walmart has used special early opening schedules for previous Black Friday events.

Some published 2026 holiday guides list opening times as early as 5:00 AM or 6:00 AM. Those estimates should not be treated as a confirmed nationwide timetable.

Does Walmart Open Early on Black Friday?

Walmart may operate special early shopping hours during Black Friday events.

However, the exact schedule can depend on the retailer’s announced promotion structure and the location.

A local store’s normal opening time should not automatically be assumed to be its Black Friday opening time.

Does Walmart Offer Black Friday Deals Online?

Yes. Walmart traditionally offers Black Friday promotions through its online shopping platform as well as physical stores.

Online event timing may differ from in-store shopping hours.

Some promotions may also offer eligible Walmart+ members earlier shopping access, depending on the event terms.

Membership does not guarantee early access to every promotion.

What Is the Best Way to Prepare for Black Friday?

Customers should compare advertised prices, confirm model numbers, review return eligibility, and check whether an item is available for shipping, pickup, or in-store purchase.

Black Friday deals can involve limited inventory, different online and in-store prices, and special promotional conditions.

Checking the complete offer details is more useful than relying on a headline discount percentage.

Walmart Christmas Eve Hours 2026

Walmart is expected to remain open on Thursday, December 24, 2026, but with reduced business hours.

In recent years, Walmart stores have commonly closed at approximately 6:00 PM on Christmas Eve.

However, the exact nationwide Christmas Eve closing time for 2026 was not confirmed in the official October holiday announcement.

Customers should therefore treat 6:00 PM as a historical planning reference, not a guaranteed closing time for every store.

Christmas Eve Shopping Considerations

Christmas Eve can be busy because shoppers often need groceries, gift wrapping supplies, batteries, medications, and last-minute gifts.

Even if the main store remains open until early evening, internal departments may close earlier.

For example, pharmacy, automotive, or vision services may become unavailable before the main store’s doors close.

Customers relying on pickup or delivery should also check appointment availability separately.

Is Walmart Open on Christmas Day 2026?

No. Walmart stores will be closed on Friday, December 25, 2026.

This is a confirmed company-wide closure for Walmart’s U.S. stores.

Customers will not be able to enter the stores for regular shopping on Christmas Day.

The closure also affects in-store services, including pharmacy counters and departments operating inside the closed store.

Walmart Christmas Week Schedule

Exact opening and closing times on operating days depend on the location.

When Does Walmart Reopen After Christmas?

Walmart stores are expected to reopen on Saturday, December 26, 2026.

For locations that normally open at 6:00 AM, that may be the applicable reopening time.

However, local schedules should be confirmed before traveling.

The day after Christmas can also bring increased traffic from customers buying discounted seasonal merchandise or handling returns.

Walmart New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day Hours

Walmart generally remains open on both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Unlike Christmas Day, neither holiday normally triggers a nationwide store closure.

Many Walmart locations follow their regular 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM schedule on these dates.

However, individual stores and departments may have different hours.

Does Walmart Close Early on New Year’s Eve?

Walmart’s main stores often maintain regular or near-regular operating hours on New Year’s Eve.

That does not mean every department follows the same schedule.

Customers needing prescription services, automotive assistance, or another specialized service should confirm the department’s closing time.

Walmart Holiday Pharmacy Hours

Walmart Pharmacy does not necessarily follow the same schedule as the main retail store.

This distinction is especially important during holidays because a Walmart Supercenter can remain open while its pharmacy operates reduced hours or is closed.

Typical Walmart Pharmacy Hours

These are common schedules, not guaranteed hours for every pharmacy.

Some locations observe a pharmacist meal break, often around 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM, during which prescription services may be temporarily unavailable.

Walmart Pharmacy Holiday Schedule

How to Avoid Prescription Delays During Holidays

If you take regular prescription medication, check your refill status before a major holiday.

A practical approach is to review your supply several days in advance, request an eligible refill when needed, and confirm that the pharmacy can prepare it before closing.

Some prescriptions have refill-date restrictions or insurance requirements.

Controlled medications may also be subject to additional legal and dispensing restrictions.

If a prescription is urgently needed when your usual Walmart Pharmacy is closed, contact an available pharmacist or healthcare professional to discuss appropriate options.

Do not assume another pharmacy can immediately transfer or refill every medication.

Do Walmart Vision Center, Auto Care Center, and MoneyCenter Follow Holiday Hours?

Not necessarily.

One of the most common shopping mistakes is assuming that an open Walmart store means every department inside it is operating.

Different service departments may have independent staffing requirements and opening hours.

Walmart Auto Care Center Holiday Hours

Walmart Auto Care Centers provide services such as tire installation, tire maintenance, battery services, and oil changes at participating locations.

However, they generally operate shorter hours than the main Walmart store.

Holiday staffing and appointment availability may also affect service access.

For vehicle maintenance before a holiday trip, booking ahead and confirming service availability can help avoid delays.

Walmart Vision Center Holiday Hours

Walmart Vision Centers may provide eyeglasses, contact lens services, and other optical products.

Eye examinations may be offered by independent optometrists, whose schedules can differ from Walmart’s retail hours.

Customers should confirm both the Vision Center’s operating hours and the availability of the specific appointment or service they need.

Walmart MoneyCenter Holiday Hours

MoneyCenter services may include money transfers, money orders, bill payments, and other financial transactions, depending on the store.

These services may be subject to separate business hours and provider processing restrictions.

A store being open late does not necessarily mean financial transactions remain available until closing.

Does Walmart Pickup and Delivery Operate on Holidays?

Walmart offers multiple fulfillment options, including shipping, scheduled delivery, express delivery, and store pickup where available.

However, holiday availability depends on more than the main store’s hours.

Walmart Grocery Pickup

Grocery pickup allows customers to place orders online and collect eligible items during an available pickup window.

On many holidays when stores remain open, pickup may also be offered.

Nevertheless, available appointment times can be affected by staffing, customer demand, and local schedules.

Thanksgiving and Christmas closures mean customers should not assume store pickup will be available on those dates.

Walmart Delivery

Walmart offers several delivery options in eligible areas, including scheduled and faster delivery services.

Delivery availability depends on the order, location, capacity, and fulfillment method.

A delivery service advertised as fast during normal operations may not be available during a holiday closure.

Walmart Shipping

Shipping is different from local grocery delivery.

Orders placed for shipment may be accepted online during a store closure, but processing and transit times depend on fulfillment operations and shipping carriers.

A holiday can affect the estimated arrival date.

Pickup vs. Delivery vs. Shipping During Holidays

Online checkout is the appropriate place to confirm a specific order’s available service and estimated fulfillment time.

How to Check Walmart Holiday Hours Near You

The most reliable way to check a particular Walmart location is to use Walmart’s official store finder or mobile app.

General holiday schedules can establish whether stores are expected to be open, but they do not always reveal the exact hours of an individual location.

Use the Walmart Store Finder

Open Walmart’s official store finder and enter your city, state, or ZIP code.

Select the relevant location and review its published hours.

You can also check the address, telephone number, and available services.

Check the Walmart App

The Walmart mobile app can help customers select their preferred store and review available shopping options.

It can also display relevant pickup or delivery availability during checkout.

Call the Store for Specialized Services

For pharmacy, automotive, vision, or another time-sensitive service, calling the appropriate department can be useful.

This is especially important during Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, Easter, and other dates when department schedules may differ from normal operations.

Confirm the Exact Date

Holiday hours shown for a previous year should not be assumed to apply to 2026.

Even when a retailer follows the same holiday policy, opening times, closing times, department schedules, and special shopping events can change.

Walmart Holiday Hours vs. Other Major Retailers

Walmart is not the only major retailer that changes its hours during holidays.

However, different businesses may follow different closure policies, and there is no universal holiday schedule for retail stores.

These are general U.S. operating patterns, not verified location-specific hours for every retailer.

Which Retailer Is More Convenient During Holidays?

For holidays such as Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day, Walmart can be a convenient option because stores generally remain open.

Costco has a more restrictive holiday closure schedule.

For Thanksgiving or Christmas Day emergencies, selected CVS or Walgreens locations may be alternatives, depending on local operating hours.

However, availability of groceries, medications, and other products varies significantly.

Customers should confirm an alternative store is actually open before making the trip.

Walmart Holiday Shopping Tips to Save Time and Avoid Problems

Knowing the Walmart holiday schedule is only part of planning a successful shopping trip.

A few additional precautions can help prevent unnecessary travel and last-minute inconvenience.

Shop Before Major Closure Dates

Thanksgiving and Christmas Day are predictable full-day closures.

Buy essential food, prescriptions, baby supplies, pet products, and household necessities before those holidays whenever practical.

Check Product Inventory Separately

An open store does not guarantee that the product you want is available.

Seasonal items can sell out, and online inventory information may change.

Checking the selected store’s inventory before traveling may help, although stock indicators are not absolute guarantees.

Remember Department Closing Times

The pharmacy may close hours before the main retail area.

This is especially important if you need medication, automotive service, or financial transactions.

Review Order Deadlines

For online holiday shopping, pay attention to the delivery date displayed during checkout.

Order processing, shipping, pickup, and delivery deadlines can differ.

An advertised shipping benefit does not necessarily override holiday carrier restrictions.

Plan for Busy Shopping Periods

The days immediately before Thanksgiving and Christmas can bring increased customer traffic.

Shopping earlier in the day or several days in advance may reduce the risk of encountering limited stock or unavailable pickup slots.

Walmart Holiday Return Policy: Does the Schedule Affect Returns?

Walmart’s holiday store schedule and product return policy are separate matters.

A store closure prevents in-person returns on that day, but it does not automatically determine when an item’s return deadline expires.

Walmart sometimes announces extended return windows for eligible purchases made during the holiday shopping season.

However, these extensions are subject to the specific year’s published terms.

Some product categories, marketplace purchases, and restricted items may have different return requirements.

Can You Return Items on Black Friday?

In-store returns are generally possible when the relevant customer service department is operating and the item is eligible.

However, service hours may differ from the main store’s opening hours.

The fact that Walmart is open for Black Friday shopping does not guarantee that every service counter is available at the same time.

Can You Return Christmas Gifts After December 25?

Eligible items can generally be returned under the applicable Walmart return policy.

Gift receipts, order information, purchase dates, item categories, and holiday return extensions may affect the process.

For a specific purchase, use the return eligibility shown in the order details or receipt rather than assuming all Christmas gifts share the same deadline.

Does Walmart Pay Employees Extra for Working Holidays?

Walmart’s employee holiday scheduling and compensation policies are separate from its customer-facing holiday hours.

Whether an associate receives additional compensation, paid time off, or another benefit depends on the applicable employment policies, role, work arrangement, and legal requirements.

Customers and employees should not assume that working on every federal holiday automatically qualifies an associate for premium pay.

Walmart associates can consult current internal employment resources and their People Lead for applicable details.

Thanksgiving and Christmas store closures also should not be interpreted as automatic paid holidays for every employee.

How We Verified the Walmart Holiday Schedule

This guide reflects information available as of October 12, 2026, and focuses on Walmart stores in the United States.

The primary reference for the two major 2026 closures is Walmart’s October 2026 corporate holiday-season announcement, which explicitly confirms that stores will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Walmart’s published store-location guidance establishes that local store pages provide opening hours, addresses, and contact details.

Other holiday operating patterns were reviewed against published 2026 retail schedules.

The following distinctions are important:

No single Walmart location’s live department schedule was audited for this article.

Therefore, exact local opening times, holiday staffing, and fulfillment appointments should be verified directly before visiting.
